If I could go back and change one thing about my wedding day—it wouldn’t be the flowers, the dress, or even the timeline.

It would be time.
Time with my mom.

She was my best friend. My biggest cheerleader. The woman who always showed up for everyone else… even on a day that should’ve been for her to just be present as the mother of the bride.

But on my wedding day, I had her wearing both hats: mom and planner and content creator… probably a lot more, but those are some of the few I can think of.

And while I was worrying about things like if the favors were laid out just right or if the timeline was sticking to the minute… I missed the chance to slow down and soak in those moments with her. I don’t have many pictures of us getting ready. We didn’t share a dance. I didn’t make a speech or hand her a bouquet. I thought I’d have time to do those things later.

But life doesn’t always give us that kind of time.

Looking back, I would give anything to have photos of her helping me into my dress, to capture the look on her face when she saw me in it. I wish I had told my photographer, “Please make sure to capture the quiet, in-between moments with me and my mom.”

Because those are the memories that mean everything now.

So here’s what I hope you take from this—especially if you’re planning your wedding right now:

Communicate with your photographer. Tell them what really matters to you. Let them know about the relationships that are most important, and ask them to focus on capturing those.

Hire someone who sees the little things. Someone who notices when your mom quietly wipes away a tear or when your best friend grabs your hand during a quiet moment. The moments you didn’t even know you needed captured.

And hire a planner. Please. Let someone else take on the stress so the people who matter most can just be there with you—fully.

Your wedding is one day, but the photos… they’re what you’ll have left when it’s all over.

Make sure they tell the real story.
